How important is your soul? It is so important Jesus ask the question,
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?-Mat 16:26.
Luke puts it this way,
For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? For whosoever shall be ashamed of Me and of My words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when He shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels-Lk 9:25,26.
For certainly, Christ had valued souls—He redeemed (bought) them-ref 1 Pet 1:18,19. He also would not under-rate the world—He created it-ref Col 1:14-17. And, do we not learn from Scripture that everything God made was good-ref Gen 1:25, 31? So, if God made us, and God made the world, are we not to enjoy it? Yes—however, not to the extent of depriving, or ignoring the care of our souls, so that we may enjoy the excesses of this life.
Every person has a soul. It is not anything we can possess—we can not physically hold it. As it is written, Behold, all souls are Mine (the Lord's)-Ezk 18:4. However, we do gain or lose our own souls. The soul is immortal, it lives for eternity and depending on your life style—by the neglect of your soul, it can be lost—the man loses his own soul. It is lost when it is eternally separated from all the good to all the evil that a soul is capable of; when it is separated from the favor of God and sunk under His wrath and curse. A man is never undone till he is in hell. Until that time, there is hope, there is repentance. For it is written, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in Me is thine help-Hos 13:9.
Christ paid a great sacrifice by laying His life down—for His Father so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him (Jesus) should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him (Jesus) might be saved-Jn 3:16,17. If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with His angels; and then He shall reward every man according to his works-Mat 16:25-27.
